In June 2022, the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Geneva Center for Business and Human Rights (GCBHR) will release a new edition of the Toolkit on Addressing Security and Human Rights Challenges in Complex Environments.

The Toolkit offers practical guidance for companies on how to develop responsible security practices in high-risk contexts. The Toolkit supports and guides companies in human rights due diligence processes, helping to identify the impacts directly caused by the company, as well as the impacts that the company contributes to or is directly linked to through its business relationships, operations, products and services.

The latest version of the Toolkit will feature new case studies, cutting-edge good practices, resources, tools and fact sheets that provide concise, practical guidance on  a series of key concepts connected to responsible security practices.

This week, DCAF, ICRC and the GCBHR release the human rights due diligence fact sheet.

The fact sheet introduces concepts such as:

  • What is human rights due diligence and how can companies conduct it?
  • How do emerging laws on human rights due diligence apply to companies?
  • How can companies integrate security management into their human rights due diligence processes?

Read last week’s fact sheet on armed conflict and responsible security management.

Upcoming Fact Sheets

  • Complex environments
  • Gender
  • Human rights defenders
  • Artisanal and small-scale mining
  • Indigenous peoples
